Class of 2025 — 412 new nurses enter the workforce

Khanyisa Nursing School celebrated its largest graduating cohort to date at the Linder Auditorium in Parktown. Four hundred and twelve graduates received their qualifications from Mrs A.L. Nkuna, with the Mpumalanga MEC for Health delivering the keynote address.

“This class represents twelve languages, five provinces and one promise,” said Mrs Nkuna. “We are sending you out into our country with a torch — guard it well.” The class will take up posts at public and private hospitals across the country, with thirty-seven graduates already accepted into community service postings at rural Mpumalanga facilities.

Khanyisa Nursing School and Themba Regional Hospital have formalised a five-year clinical training agreement that will give Bushbuckridge sub-campus students structured rotations in maternity, paediatrics and trauma. The agreement was signed by the school’s CEO and the Themba Hospital CEO in a ceremony attended by the Bohlabela District Health Office.

The partnership will add approximately 90 additional clinical placement slots per academic year and includes a dedicated preceptorship programme for Themba’s senior registered nurses.

Students lead World AIDS Day awareness drive

The Johannesburg campus opened its gates to the public for World AIDS Day, with student-led HIV awareness stalls, free screening, live music and a Khanyisa Choir performance of Senzeni Na? remixed with original lyrics about the journey of testing and treatment adherence.

Over 380 community members were screened, 26 referred to local clinics and 4 newly diagnosed patients were linked to ARV treatment within 48 hours — a model the SRC hopes to extend to all five campuses in 2026.
